Current Location: Petersburg, VA Trey Songz was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson on November 28, 1984. Raised in Petersburg, Virginia as a military child, Trey Songz didnt have the desire to be a music artist due to his shyness growing up. He recognized how great his ability to sing at the age of 14. Although he didnt desire singing publicly, he was convinced by friends. In 2000 he was discovered by a pruducer by the name of Trey. This led to him getting a recording contract with Atlantic Records in 2002. Trey Songs graduated high school in 2002 and immediately moved to New Jersey.
From 2004 to 2006 While recording his debut album in 2004, Songz released multiple mixtapes under the alias Prince of Virginia. One of the mixtapes was an "answer track" to R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet", and was called "Open the Closet". The greatly improved his notoriety. July 26, 2005 Trey dropped. I Gotta Make It. It hit #20 on the Billboard 200, it sold 40,000 copies the first week. In total it sold 300,000 records. In March 2005 Songz's debut single, Gotta Make It, featuring Twistawas was released and hit #87 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #21 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. It added greatly to his success but was recognized as much as he had anticipated. The album's second single, Gotta Go, reached main stream in July 2005 and reached #67 on the Hot 100 and #11 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, leading to even more success in the urban community. After long promoting his debut, he was featured on Twista's fifth album, The Day After. Helping push the Single Girl Tonigh to a peak position on billboards
Mixtape after mixtape, song after song and album after album, Trey reached a peek in his career but still fell short
The second album h released single, "Wonder Woman", in February 2007 hit #54 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, In 2008, at BET Awards ceremony Trey was nominated for Best Male R&B Artist.
