Tank was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as a child he moved to Washington, D.C. In the suburb of Clinton, Maryland. He was an athlete in several sports at Crossland High School and had the opportunity to play college football. Tank instead decided to focus on music. Eventually he was given the opportunity to sing background vocals for Ginuwine while he was on tour. Tank then did a few mixtapes and in 2001, Tank released his album called Force of Nature which which drove the R&B single "Maybe I Deserve" Top Ten. In 2002, Tank released his second album One Man.
Tank released his third album called "Sex, Love & Pain" on May 15, 2007. The lead single was intended to be "I Luv Dem Girls", but ended up being given to Marques Houston who renamed it "Strip Club" The first single from Tank's third album was "Please Don't Go". Later that year Tank, Ginuwine and Tyrese Gibson formed the group TGT. The first single for the group was a remix of "Please Don't Go".

They soon did an international tour and called it "The Shirts Off Tour".After a few mixtapes Tank then released his fourth album, Now or Never, on December 14, 2010 collaborating with other artists on this project like Letoya Luckett, Chris Brown, Drake and many other artists.
Tank's song writing and production credits include working with Omarion, Jamie Foxx, Dave Hollister, Marques Houston, Donell Jones and Monica amongst others.
